With more than 240 kilometres of beaches, the Costa Blanca has become a paradise to live in for both nationals and foreigners. Made up of 19 towns, it covers the province of Alicante from the municipality of Denia, in the north, to Pilar de la Horadada, in the south.
The capitals par excellence of this Mediterranean area are Benidorm and Torrevieja, two of the most popular tourist resorts in the area and along the entire Levantine coast. However, each of the towns and villages that make up the Costa Blanca are enchanting and different from one another. But what is so special about this Mediterranean paradise that makes it such a sought-after place?
300 DAYS OF SUNSHINE PER YEAR
Good weather all year round? Yes, it is possible on the Costa Blanca. One of its main characteristics is its sun and beach conditions. Thanks to these two factors, it offers a temperate climate for a large part of the year, making it attractive for both tourist and residential activity.
The World Health Organization (WHO), determined that the climate found in the Costa Blanca is “one of the healthiest” for people. On average, it has more than 2,800 hours of sunshine per year and an average temperature of between 17º and 19º. Rainfall in the area is scarce, as it usually rains 20 days or so throughout the year.
Winter is usually mild and not too cold due to its proximity to the sea. However, in mountainous areas you may have the chance to see snow on many days of the year.
CULTURE AND TRADITION IN ITS PUREST FORM
Gunpowder, light and fire. The streets of the vast majority of towns on the Costa Blanca are filled with colours to represent their culture and tradition. Undoubtedly, we are in one of the areas with the most patron saint festivals on the peninsula.
One of the best known by locals and tourists alike are the Hogueras de San Juan, celebrated in the heart of Alicante. Held in June, they welcome the summer with musical performances, fireworks and sculptures that are all art. A way of welcoming the new and burning the things of the past. All with the same purpose: to worship fire.
The history of the area is also represented in many villages and towns in the area. We are talking about the traditional and historical festival of the Moors and Christians. Among the most famous are those in Alcoy, which were declared Festivals of International Tourist Interest in 1980. During every month of the year you can find part of this tradition in every corner of the Costa Blanca.
There are also many other celebrations, such as the Mystery of Elche, a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
The Costa Blanca has a very important historical heritage, from the cave paintings found in the Pla de Petracos to the sites of Lucentum and Alcudia.
AWARD-WINNING GASTRONOMY
Another reason to start a new life on the Costa Blanca is that you will fall in love with it with your palate. One of the attractions of the Mediterranean coast is its gastronomy. Its numerous Michelin Stars reaffirm the quality of the food that can be found on the Alicante coast.
Among the most characteristic foods of the area are fish and seafood such as sea bass and sea bream. With them, you will be able to taste and enjoy the most elaborate rice dishes on the peninsula. In addition, the quality and flavour of its fruit and vegetables make the perfect combination for salads and desserts.
Another traditional dish is salted fish. The Costa Blanca is characterised by its healthy and high quality food. In addition, many towns and villages have wines that have been awarded the Denomination of Origin seal.
BEACHES AND NATURAL SITES OF GREAT BEAUTY
Among its kilometres and kilometres of coastline you will find wide, crystal-clear beaches. Many of them have been awarded with the blue flag distinction thanks to their recognition for the quality and safety of their waters and the services they offer.
It is not only the beaches that make the inhabitants fall in love, but also the spectacular natural landscapes. The province of Alicante is the second most mountainous in Spain and has a dozen natural parks. Among them, we can find the Sierra de Mariola and the Peñón de Ifach.
What’s more, if you are a hiking enthusiast, there are several routes worthy of a film, such as the Sierra de Bernia.
AN INVESTOR’S PARADISE
Given all of the above characteristics, the Costa Blanca has a very competitive real estate variety. The property market in the area offers affordable prices and, for this reason, it has become one of the main destinations for buying and selling. Its good climate has favoured the permanence of high season throughout the year. Thus, owners will be able to maintain seasonal profitability in their rental properties.
Moreover, it is an area with an abundance of luxury homes and developments. All along the Costa Blanda we can find authentic paradises in Jávea, Calpe or Moraira, where 20% of the luxury homes in Spain are located.
